Giving prizes to meritorious students in the medical college, Baroda. The medical curriculum in India has 14 subjects taught over a period of 4 & ½ years.  We award prizes to the first 10 students in each subject. The total no. of prizes are more than 140 every year.  There is always an incident that the tenth highest score is achieved by two, three or four students in some subjects. As a result, the total no. of prizes goes up to about 160.  We try to accommodate all those bright boys & girls.   

      We do not give a cash prize. We give books only.  We choose some good books which are not usually read by the medical students.  We have been trying to change their reading habits and expand their horizon in choosing books.

The prize distribution is always a ceremony. The college dean and some retired professors come and lecture the students and award them the prizes.   We also give a certificate signed by the college dean to each prize winning student. The certificate says that the student achieved a certain rank in a particular subject. Some students receive multiple prizes and carry many certificates & books home.
